How do I choose a Medicine Ball?
There are two main factors to consider when choosing your medicine ball: weight and model.
Which type for which use?
Whatever your level of sport or fitness, we've got the weighted ball for you:
- The Slam Ball: with no rebound effect, it can be lifted and thrown to the ground with full power. You can use it for explosive movements or simple squats.
- The Wall Ball Pro: relatively light, the Wall Ball is designed for intensive use and develops your explosive power via the medicine ball throw.
- Wall Ball Kids: with its 25 cm diameter, the Wall Ball Kids is ideal for children and beginners alike. Thanks to its light weight, it allows you to progress and improve your technique with ease.
- The DBall: designed for more advanced levels, the Dball enables you to work your whole body, your cardio, your athletic strength and your muscular reinforcement. It's the perfect ball for bodybuilding and sheathing.
The Medicine Ball is mainly used to work your abdominal muscles and strengthen your core. It serves as a fulcrum to improve stability and coordination. The heavier, sand-filled Slam Ball doesn't bounce. It is therefore better suited to throwing-type exercises or those that generate stronger impacts on the ground.
What weight should I choose for a Medicine Ball?
To choose the right weight for your wall ball, you need to take into account your level of fitness, your body size and the type of exercise you're aiming for:
- Choose a ball between 4 and 6 kg if you want to perform long but fast sets such as AMRAP. This weight is particularly suitable for beginners. It's also the ideal weight range for women.
- Choose a 6-9 kg Medicine Ball if you're at a more advanced level, or if you're a man. This is the weight designed for the more intensive training often applied in crosstraining.
- Go for a ball weighing over 10 kg if you're at a more advanced level.
Why buy a medicine ball?
Versatile, the medicine ball can be adapted to any sporting activity:
- It enables you to work on your basic physical strength, making it suitable for weight training.
- A lighter version is perfectly suited to rehabilitation, allowing you to recover from injury at your own pace.
- It's also excellent for crosstraining, and is highly effective in maximizing power and cardio endurance.
Our medicine balls are available from €15 up to €90, making them affordable for all budgets and easy to maintain. Made from resistant materials, you'll be able to train over the long term without fear of damaging the surface!
How do you use them?
If you're a beginner or just looking to get started with your homegym, here are a few ways to use our different balls.
What exercises can I do with a weighted ball?
The wall ball shot, a crosstraining classic:
- Hold your ball at face level, with both hands in support.
- Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart.
- Do a squat, keeping your back straight and the ball at the same height.
- Push off with your legs, throwing the ball against a wall above you.
- Catch the ball by flexing into a squat at the same time.
There are many other exercises you can do with a weighted ball, such as the russian twist, the wall throw, or crunching on the floor with a partner in front of you, to whom you throw the medicine ball as you come up.
